Reading Fairy’s action-packed classes for 1-5-year olds have been developed by early reading experts give children the best start for learning to read and loving books.

Our unique curriculum supports every age and stage of your child’s preschool reading journey form Stage 1 Book Babies (Age 1+) to Stage 4 Reading Recruits (Age 3 & 4).

Classes are based on the latest research and best early years practice. We believe in learning through play and classes include: sensory and performance storytelling, songs and rhymes, fun phonics and first word games, picture book time and more!

Crucial building blocks for reading

The format of each Reading Fairy class ensures that children experience and develop a range of crucial building blocks for learning to read including: phonics, vocabulary development, reading for meaning (comprehension) and reading for pleasure.

Reading Fairy has developed lovable characters to support children’s learning in a fun and engaging way. Each character represents a crucial reading skill:

  • Reading Fairy: Celebrates stories and storytelling
  • Phonic Fox: Uses phonics to link letters and sounds for learning to read
  • Music Mouse: Sings nursery rhymes to develop oral and literacy skills
  • Chat Cat: Develops children’s speaking and listening skills
  • Book Bear: Shares a picture book to inspire a love of reading

Fun phonics for learning to read

Our expertise in phonics is outstanding with Reading Fairy founders Emily Guille-Marrett and Charlotte Raby having worked on nearly every reading programme in UK schools. Reading Fairy’s gentle phonics progression grows with your child:

  • Matching environmental sounds to objects
  • Matching letter sounds to objects
  • Matching sounds to letter shapes
  • Segmenting and blending sounds in words

A foundation for reading for life

The latest research shows that children need more than phonics to develop a foundation for reading for life. The structure of Reading Fairy classes ensures your child experiences a wide range of reading kills, including reading for pleasure with Book Bear time at the end of every class.
