Flints has arrived in Hitchin offering juices, smoothies, frozen yogurt, specialist coffees and teas, ice lollies and crepes.

This Hitchin Mummy went to check them out on their opening week…

In my opinion, it’s never too cold for ice cream. Or frozen yoghurt in this case. To celebrate Lottie’s first full day at preschool (but any excuse really) we headed to Flints to treat ourselves!

We headed straight for the frozen yogurt counter. You can choose from natural, strawberry, chocolate or a “mystery flavour” (today this was salted caramel). That’s just the beginning of the choices to make – there are lots of bowls full of gorgeous things such as chocolate buttons, Reece’s pieces, fudge and gummy bears you can top your fro-yo with for just 50p more. Obviously we couldn’t resist.

Staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful, although this turned out to be lucky as there are not any highchairs (yet) so logistics were a bit fiddly. With Lottie and I perched on stools looking out over St Mary’s Church and Matilda in the pushchair we tucked in… (Note to self: pushchair fabric now needs a wash).

It was delicious. Chocolatey without being sickly nor too sharp like some frozen yogurts can be. Two between me and two littl’uns was plenty.

Covered in chocolate I realised too late I’d left the baby wipes at home – no worries, these are provided for sticky fingers of all ages anyway!

Yes, Hitchin really does have a lot of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants but not all of them make me feel as welcome with my two munchkins as Flints.

It’s the little things that make a difference when you’re out with small children… It’s easy to access with a buggy and staff opened doors, carried our food and pushed the buggy to our seats (all without me asking). Staff took the time to talk to my very chatty 3 year old too.

I’d like a high chair or two to be available and the owner, Amanda, shared some ideas she had about entertaining little ones whilst they’re there too – so I think it’s only going to get better.

Will we be back? Definitely. And I’ll be tucking into a crepe next time. Or maybe a smoothie. Or I might wait for one of the delicious looking ice lollies that will be on sale in a few weeks time…

You can find Flints at 8 Market Place, Hitchin SG5 1DR. For more information you can find them on Facebook and Twitter or call them on 01462 458555
