Toddler Tales & Move is one of the newest preschool classes on offer in Hitchin.
Run by Lucy Harrigan, it’s summer residence has been at the stunning Hitchin Lavender which is where we went to try it out!
Toddler Tales & Move is an hour long session with stories, music and dancing for toddlers and their parents / carers.
Lucy is a local mum of 2 (soon to be 3!) who trained at the Italia Continue Academy of Theatre Arts in Dance and Drama. Since graduating she has worked as an actress, producer, choreographer and teacher and currently teaches at Ickle Drama, amongst other work.
The session began with lively movement and dancing to get everyone warmed up before the interactive storytelling began. This week had a pirate theme with some dressed up for the occasion.
Children unwrapped a box full of props including treasure maps and a photo of “long lost relative” of the teddy bear in the story! Every child got involved with hunting for the hidden fishes to help find the treasure – rewarded by a golden chocolate coin for their efforts.
Afterwards it was snack time, this week consisting of sugar free banana muffins, blueberries and breadsticks along with a drink. Tea and coffee (plus biscuits) were on offer for parents from the lovely Hitchin Lavender staff. As the children sat, Lucy read some other pirate themed stories to an enthralled audience.
The session finished with a more leaping around, this time with ribbons and scarves. Great fun!
It was a grey morning and slightly drizzly, but this didn’t matter at all. Lucy’s passion for drama as well as her ease working with young children is obvious. She has so much energy and enthusiasm that even the most shy toddler can’t help but be swept along by it!
Sessions cost £5 per child and include tea/coffee and biscuit for parents and squash/snack for toddlers. Advance booking is required.
